On Dec. 8, 2006, the feast of the Immaculate Conception, KWKY Radio joined the growing number of Catholic radio stations in the United States. Catholic Radio is making great strides toward educating Catholics and others about the teachings of the Catholic Church, and we are very excited to be a part of this movement.
For 30 years, KWKY Radio was the voice of evangelical Christianity in central Iowa. We are grateful to all of our listeners for allowing us to serve you for all these years. Recently, a group of Catholic businessmen and clergy from the Des Moines area formed the non-profit organization St. Gabriel Communications in order to bring Catholic radio to Des Moines St. Gabriel Communications then purchased KWKY from the long-time owners, the Putbrese family. St. Gabriel Communications and the Putbreses feel that this change will allow them to use their resources to answer the call of the late Pope John Paul II for a "new evangelization."
